Released on 5 June 1989, "Flowers In The Dirt" was the eighth studio album by Paul McCartney, the album earned some of the artist best reviews since "Tug Of War", it reached the No. 1 in the UK and Norway and produced several hits as "My Brave Face", "This One" and "Figure Of Eight".
After the awful sales of "Press To Play", the artist realised that he needed to work not only much harder on his following album, but to produce something quite better and different, so he teamed up with different producers during the 18 months Mccartney perfetioned the songs on "Flowers In The Dirt", the artist achieved an allience with Elvis Costello whom composed many new songs, like "That Days Is Done" considered by Costello as an unhappy sequel of "Veronica", unfortunately the society dit not last enough due some disputes between both of them, David Gilmour was another guest and played the guitar on "We Got Married", and on "Put It There" he borrowed an old trick by Buddy Holly the knee percussion.
"My Brave Face" was a smash hit reaching No. 25 in the USA, and No. 18 in the UK, achieving positive critical review, in consequence the reaction was beyond better than "Press To Play", the album reached the No. 21 and stayed there for several weeks, "This One" reached the No. 18 in the UK and the rest "Figure Of Eight", "Où Est Le Soleil?" & "Put It There" became minor hits in the UK.
The album cover was designed by Brian Clark, who painted the backgrounds painting in oil on cancas, and then the cover was photographed by Linda McCartney, Clarke was also responsible for designing stage sets and promotional material for the world.
The album was considered a fantastic welcome to the form, just like the cool old days of yore with the Fab Four, a remarkable comeback effort by McCartney whom hadn't been treated seriously for years.
