The Reissue: Bryan Ferry's "Bête Noire/Dylanesque" Reissues

Bryan Ferry's 1987 album Bête Noire will be reissued next month, alongside a release of his 2007 album Dylanesque.

Bête Noire was the follow up to 1985's magnificent Boys and Girls and was co-produced with Patrick Leonard. Johnny Marr was amongst the contributors to Bête Noire, whose singles were "The Right Stuff", "Kiss and Tell" and "Limbo". 

Incredible, only  "The Right Stuff" entered the UK top 40, peaking at No 37. 

For the 2025 reissue Bête Noire is released as a 2CD deluxe edition and on purple vinyl. The second disc of the 2CD set offers remixes and edits from the original singles. This appears to be mostly comprehensive, with the exception of a small number of "Limbo" versions, putting together for a listeneable running order. 

About Dylanesque, this was of course Ferry's tribute to the songwriting genius of Bob Dylan. Released in 2007, it's now reissued on red vinyl and CD with no bonus tracks.

Bête Noire and Dylanesque are reissued on 14 November 2025. The CDs are packaging in Japan-style mini-LP replicas.

Rocktrospectiva: The Finest And Classy Masterpiece "Boys And Girls" Turns 40

 

Released on 3 June 1985 "Boys And Girls" was the sixth solo studio album by the English singer and songwriter Bryan Ferry. The album was Ferry's first solo album in seven years and the first since he had disbanded his band Roxy Music in 1983. The album was Ferry's first and only number one solo album in the UK. It is also Ferry's most successful solo album in the US, having been certified Gold for sales in excess of half a million copies there. The album spawned three singles "Slave to Love", which became one of Ferry's most popular solo hits. The single was released on 3 May 1985 and spent nine weeks in the UK charts in 1985, peaking at number 10, along with the other (modestly successful) singles "Don't Stop the Dance" and "Windswept". 

Bryan Ferry began laying the groundwork for Boys and Girls in July 1983 at his Sussex home, two months after Roxy Music's split. With the help of co-producer/engineer Rhett Davies, Ferry laid down basic song sketches onto 8-track with keyboards and a drum machine pattern programmed by Davies. Gradually, they involved other musicians by the likes of Andy Newmark, Omar Hakim, Neil Hubbard, Mark Knopfler, Nile Rodgers and Keith Scott to name a few.  The track "Slave to Love" established the clean, cool vision of Ferry on his own to the general public. Instead of ragged rock explosions, emotional extremes, and all that made his '70s work so compelling in and out of Roxy, Ferry here is the suave, debonair if secretly moody and melancholic lover, with music to match, and is still what you expect to hear from Ferry.

Seven years removed from his last studio album, Ferry began recording Boys And Girls in 1983, spending nearly eighteen months to complete it. Boys And Girls picks up where Roxy Music’s eight and final studio album Avalon left off and honestly, the subtitle for that album could have been This Is the Direction Where Bryan Ferry Is Headed.

Throughout his solo career, Ferry was always conscious of making sure his own records did not sound like Roxy Music. For Boys And Girls, he assembled an all-star lineup and Ferry wanted to use what he called "inspirational players" who would go with the flow and follow the feelings he was attempting to display. Boys And Girls is definitely not a continuation of Avalon, but a sweeping seductive work of art that is sophisticated but not pandering to a more commercial audience. Back when I first heard it, I was amazed at how there was a song for almost every mood that required you to exercise a little bit of chill. The album’s first track "Sensation" begins with the faint sounds of an orchestra warming up and then going into a few notes on the guitar with each instrument coming in along for the ride one by one. Ferry’s voice comes in almost a minute later. It’s a good kick-off to the album, but what comes next may very well be his finest moment as a solo artist.

"Slave To Love" one of Ferry's strongest compositions and it exemplifies what the whole mood of the album is all about. The voices paired with the music paints a picture that is breathtaking and memorable. Not even its overuse by filmmakers in the '80s and '90s could ruin its place as one of the '80s’ best love songs and the key part of what we call sophisti-pop.

The "Don’t Stop The Dance," "Windswept" and "Valentine" are amongst the other highlights of Boys And Girls, but in no way overshadow or diminish the rest of the other tracks. This album should be heard in its entirety and it’s a fairly quick and pleasurable listen and stands as one the most timeless adult contemporary records of the day. 

Ferry wasn’t out to make a hit pop record, but instead, he created a mood. When asked by music critic Robert Palmer how he would characterize the overall mood of Boys And Girls, Ferry said, “It’s got to the stage where I seem to be digging deeper and deeper within myself every time I make a record. And when I sort of plunge for things, I do find some sad moods. The point is to try and make something beautiful out of that.” Boys And Girls, at the time of its release, was Ferry’s greatest solo work to date. It remains one of the high points of his career and led him to more success with his next release Bete Noir (1987).

The Reissue: Bryan Ferry 13th., Studio Album "Olympia" Will Be Reissued

Bryan Ferry's 13th studio album, Olympia, will be reissued next month on CD and vinyl. Originally released in 2010, Olympia includes contributions from Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, David Gilmour and Nile Rodgers. The single "You Can Dance" was co-written with Dave A. Stewart of Eurythmics. 

According to Bryan:  When we did "You Can Dance", it started off as a country and western kind of track and I turned it into something with a different feel altogether.

The album features model Kate Moss on the front cover and at the time of release was available in various editions including a CD+DVD deluxe with two bonus tracks and some video content. A large format super deluxe added a bonus CD of remixes. A Vinyl Factory pressed 200g deluxe vinyl was also available.

For 2025, the new CD edition effectively replicates the old deluxe but loses the DVD. So the two bonus audio tracks are the same: "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" and "One Night". A new LP version is pressed on 180g red vinyl. Bryan Ferry has overseen updated artwork for both formats (this appears to be minor).

Simultaneously, with Olympia is a reissue of Ferry's 1999 album As Time Goes By, a collection of cover versions of popular songs and jazz standards. Like Olympia this record was co-produced with Rhett Davies. No bonus tracks on CD this time, just the 15 songs that were originally on the album. The LP reissue is pressed on 180g ‘honey gold’ vinyl.

New Music: Orchestra

           

Bryan Ferry is planning to release a collaborative album with the artist/writer/painter Amelia Barratt. Arriving in March, Loose Talk showcases 11 texts composed by Barratt, which are set to music by Ferry. The pair first teased their partnership last year with the release of "Star," Today, Barratt and Ferry are sharing a new song, "Orchestra." Barratt adds: Loose Talk is a conversation between two artists: a collaborative album of music by Bryan Ferry with spoken texts by me. It's cinematic; music put to pictures. There’s possibility for experimentation within a frame. And there's a freedom in knowing exactly what my part to play is, then being able to pass a baton, stretching out creatively and knowing there is someone on the other side to take it further. Nothing feels off limits. The video was filmed and directed by Bryan Ferry and James Garzke.

Rocktrospectiva: The Fine And Lush Elegant "Avonmore" Turns 10

Released on 17 November 2014 "Avonmore" was the 15th., studio album by English singer Bryan Ferry, it was his first collection of new songs in nearly four years back then, the album spawned the single "Loop De Li". 

Ferry enlisted the help of an all-star cast of players and producers—Todd Terje, Nile Rodgers, Johnny Marr, Flea, Ronnie Spector, Mark Knopfler, and Maceo Parker. Curiously, most of the special guests are all but invisible on Avonmore, their presence muted by Ferry’s unmistakable voice and the lush production. Ferry has become known increasingly for his impeccable covers, it’s refreshing that Avonmore is comprised almost exclusively of original material, most of which hearkens back to his most classic sounds.

The album has a 1980s sound and touch, indeed some of the tracks could have drifted off of one of Ferry’s mid-'80s solo records. There are two great track " Loop de Li" and "Midnight Train" these two complete with tastefully employed chimes and a smattering of low key horns, both are dark and romantic with the kind of breathless quality that only Ferry can offer. 

The track "A Special Kind of Guy" is so intensely Ferry-ish that it borders on parody, Ferry manages to sell it perfectly almost every time. Avonmore flounders when the music, which routinely flirts with a kind of adult contemporary smoothness, leans over into blandness. Co-written by Johnny Marr, "Soldier of Fortune" would be forgettable were it not for Ferry’s tremulous voice, "Driving Me Wild" and "Lost", are fine, while "One Night Stand" mines '80s tropes in the worst possible way—honking sax, a chorus of sassed up backup singers, and an un-funky Ferryon vocals.

There are two covers on Avonmore provide some of the weirdest surprises. Stephen Sondheim’s "Send in the Clowns" could have been rendered as a bit of grandly devastating melodrama, but instead gets mostly buried under a load of damp electronica. While it’s admirable that Ferry might give the venerable bit of camp a modern spin, the end result is something limp and mostly drama-free. He has more success with his cover of Robert Palmer’s "Johnny and Mary"—a collaboration with Norwegian producer Todd Terje. It’s one of the album’s most gorgeous moments, a melancholic ode to romantic ennui that actually allows Ferry to sound his age.

Avonmore was a fine addition to Bryan Ferry’s collection, this new record was a sort of slick and often quite lovely—recalling '80’s masterworks like Boys and Girls or Bête Noire. His voice remained one of the most singular and finely-honed sounds in popular music, it was Ferry's prime moment keeping his legacy intact.

Rocktrospectiva: Bryan Ferry's Underrated Masterpiece "Mamouna" Turns 30

 

Released on 5 September 1994 in the UK, "Mamouna" was the ninth solo studio album by English crooner Bryan Ferry, it was Ferry's first album of original material in seven years and he spent six years writing and recording it, under the working title Horoscope. The album peaked at number 11 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned two single "Your Painted Smile" & "Mamouna". 

 

Heavily reinforced by "Taxi", Mr. Ferry return to business and set up to "Mamouna" released the following year, an album notable for being his first recordings with the help of Brian Eno since the latter split from Roxy Music back in 1973. Under the produccion of Nile Rodgers, Robin Trower and Carleen Anderson, and surrounded of fantastic musician to create a decent album fairly compared as a minor "Bête Noire" and a revamp of "Boys And Girls", combining some of Ferry's least compelling songs in a while, so "Mamouna" is a rare magnificent odd, with certain curious songs such as "The 39 Steps" has a slightly menacing vibe to it, appropriate given the cinematic reference of the title, while the Ferry/Eno collaboration "Wildcat Days" displays some of Eno's old synth-melting flash.

 

Mamouna is pleasant without being involving, and album that took six years to complete, was poorly received at the time, even Ferry himself, having spent all his money on it, seems ambiguous about it in retrospect. The critical knives were out from the moment it was learnt that over 100 musicians had been involved on it's making, an album with so many layers that demand a repeated listening on a high wuality sound system to realise this is a masterpiece work of superior quality, with its lows and high, and sharp contrasts, with a variety of music styles, with no blues or country tracks, and almost no rock and roll pastiches as well, surrounded of subtle guitars and electronic drumbeats, remarkable tracks are of course "The 39 Steps", "Your Painted Smile" and of course the fine "Mamouna".

 

A fine masterpiece combining amazing sound escapes, great musicianship full of great songs in the Ferry cool style, so many layers of colours and sound fine production, that slowly pushes the listener into a intimate dance.

Legendary British crooner Bryan Ferry has returned with his first original song in over a decade, "Star" which features the collaboration of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of NIN and also on vocals Amelia Barratt a recent friend of Ferry's to turn the single into a proper duet, according to Ferry on NIN collaboration, he described it as a sketch giving a sound more like the industrial "Year Zero" than the atmospheric "Avalon", the video was directed and filmed by Jamez Garzke and Bryan Ferry himself, and there is plenty yet to come, new music which will coincide with the release of his massive retrospective box set on October 25.

The Compilation: Bryan Ferry/Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023

A new compilation focuses on Bryan Ferry works will be released this November under BMG. Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023 is a new Bryan Ferry 5CD deluxe set that brings together his classic output with Island Records, Polydor, Virgin/E.G., and BMG, spanning a period of over 50 years.

 

This deluxe edition has themed CDs with the first offering a 20-track "Best Of", the second "Compositions" looks at album tracks and deep cuts, the third disc "Interpretations" shines a spotlight on Ferry’s cover versions while the fourth CD showcases music by that retro-jazz ensemble called "The Bryan Ferry Orchestra" (mostly taken from 2012’s The Jazz Age and Bitter-Sweet from 2018). The final disc "Rare and Unreleased" features 16 rarities and includes four previously unreleased tracks.

 

This is a large format 9″ x 9″ presentation, tastefully art-directed by Bryan Ferry. The outer slipcase holds a 100-page hardcover book, featuring photos from across Ferry’s career. now this is apparently an extremely limited edition, but despite this, the price may raise a few eyebrows.

 

As well as the deluxe edition there are single CD and 2LP vinyl editions which both offer the 20-track ‘best of’ which is CD 1 of this five disc set (a clear vinyl 2LP set is available via indie shops.

La Reedición: Mamouna Deluxe Reissue

Lanzado originalmente en 1994 "Mamouna" fue el primer álbum con material original de Bryan Ferry en siete años, tiempo en el cual también le alcanzó para lanzar un álbum bajo el título de "Horoscope",  que al final de cuentas en su momento no llegó a ver la luz hasta ahora, el disco viene con grabaciones alternas a las que se lanzaron en una edición 3CD Deluxe y 2LP, además de un disco llamado "Sketches" con temas alternos, versiones tempraneras e instrumentales del mismo empaquetado igual al de Tina Turner "Foreign Affair, Break Every Rule". 

 

El disco encaja en ese genial período de cinco años entre el fino "Bête Noire" y el vibrante "Mamouna" junto a esa rareza llamada "Horoscope" que jamas fue comercializado, un año antes de "Taxi", pero por si tenían cierta curiosidades de saber porque ese disco inédito jamas vio la luz, el propio Ferry ha decidido contar la historia dentro de este box set en donde aparecen sketches y las cintas perdidas de ese disco en un solo lugar. 

 

En el caso de "Horoscope", el disco tiene un sonido muy fino y exquisito sin comparación alguna, con temas como "S&M" y "Where Do We Go From Here", llenos de bella sensualidad y que permite la voz barítono de Ferry destacar hasta una octava, "Desdemona" tiene un toque industrial y casi R&B, en el caso del track "Loop De Li" se le siente un aire sin terminar pero que ha quedado rectificado en el otro disco "sketch sessions".

 

En el caso de "Mamouna" destaca el genial track "Your Painted Smile" con una nueva versión mucho más atrevida que el original, "Don't Talk To Me" reafirma el estilo y porque merece la pena el disco, ya que aporta un sonido crepuscular a su discografía, con ciertas pinceladas del glam de "Roxy Music", la eurocentrista "Mother Of Pearl" así como el tema inspirado en la temática de James Bond "Wildcat Days" que es el único tema escrito junto a Brian Eno viejo colega de Roxy Music. 

Un elegante relanzamiento que vale la pena tener.

Rocktrospectiva: El Aclamado Y Sofisticado "Taxi" Cumple 30 Años

Lanzado originalmente el 10 de Marzo en Japón, luego el 22 de Marzo en el Reino Unido y finalmente el 12 de Abril en los Estados Unidos, "Taxi" fue el 8avo., álbum de estudio en la carrera del crooner Británico, Bryan Ferry, y el 3ero., tras la segunda ruptura de Roxy Music, resultó logrando un tremendo éxito y beneplácito de la critica, ya que alcanzó el No. 2 en el Reino Unido, lanzando tres singles siempre con ese toque sofisticado que venía trabajando desde "Bête Noire", siendo estos "I Put A Spell On You", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", y finalmente "Girl Of My Best Friend".

 

En realidad, "Taxi" es un álbum de covers, excepto por "Because You're Mine" que es original de Ferry, los orígenes del disco se remontaron un par de años antes, tras una mala racha según el artista, con "Taxi" las cosas venían dándose bien, por lo que trabajar en este disco fue sinceramente algo gratificante, además de relajado ya que no tuvo la presión de escribir algo, sino mejor se dedicó a trabajar en temas que le gustaban mucho dándole su toque único.  

 

El disco es rico en cuanto al pop sofisticado, renovando versiones clásicas de temas de rock, pop y soul, forjando así una reputación de ser el mejor artista interprete de temas pop, de la mano del productor Robin Trower y el propio Ferry, junto a un formidable grupo de músicos entre los que se incluían a Nathan East, Steve Ferrone y Carleen Anderson entre otros, y es que el disco en sí pese a ser de covers, parecían ser canciones propias de la casa sin cambiar mucho ese formidable estilo que comenzó algunos años atrás, una serie de temas clásicos con aires renovados a inicios de los 90s., y que honestamente si estos tracks no fueran tan famosos uno asumiría que son cosecha de Ferry como decía anteriormente.

 

Quizás el único problema es que pareciera que Ferry se acomodó en este estilo, que todavía sigue usando, es decir los covers, hay un puente lógico entre "Bête Noire" y "Mamouna" en donde esos efectos son agradables, y como ejemplo teníamos a las juguetonas y de corte funky "Amazing Grace" y "Answer Me", dos selecciones inusuales sin duda, pasando por la curiosa "All Tomorrow's Parties" de Lou Reed y la Velvet Underground, mismo trato es con los temas de Elvis Presley y que le dieron el toque pegajoso a "Taxi" con esos hermosos aires a sofisticación pop que marcaron en esa época y contrastaban con la revolución grunge y brit pop del momento. 

 

El disco conquistó a la crítica, ya que presentaba a un Ferry mucho más maduro, suave y controlado, muy en la línea que adoptó a partir de 1989, con las vocales adecuadas, y el sonido y humor correctos, unos aires siniestros y oscuros en algunos casos, haciendo del disco algo consistentemente inspirado de principio a fin.

Rocktrospectiva: El Sofisticado "Bête Noire" Cumple 35 Años

Lanzado el 2 de Noviembre de 1987 "Bête Noire" fue el 7mo., álbum de estudio del Inglés Bryan Ferry, el cual alcanzó un gran éxito comercial y éxito con la crítica en ambos lados del charco, se lanzaron tres finos y sofisticados singles "The Right Stuff" en donde Johnny Marr aportaba las guitarras en un tema adaptado de un lado B de The Smiths, la genial instrumental "Money Changes Everything", y que fue el único single que alcanzó el top 40 en el Rieno Unido, el siguiente "Kiss And Tell" si entro al top 40 de la Billboard siendo su único top 40 por muy raro que parezca en los Estados Unidos y que apareció en el formidable film "Bright Lights, Big City", y el último single "Limbo" tan solo llegó al No. 86 en el Reino Unido.

 

Tras el enorme éxito de su "Boys And Girls", el Inglés busco un cambio de estilo y quiso darle un toque más bailable a su estilo, por lo que unió fuerzas con Patrick Leonard que había trabajado con Madonna, el productor escribio junto a Ferry cinco canciones del disco, y entre los invitados contó con David Gilmour, Guy Pratt, Marcus Miller, David Williams, Abraham Laborielm, Neil Hubbard y Johnny Marr entre otros. El disco ofrece un punto notable en la carrera de Ferry dándole una mejor energía para volver de este disco, su "Boys And Girls" parte 2, su estilo y sonido bien pulido, el balance entre los temas sentimentales con ese sentido misterioso y la energía de una pista de baile, por ejemplo, la cinemática "Limbo" o la embrujante y disfrutable "Zamba" con su estilo minimalista, los suaves sintetizadores y ese embrujante piano que hace uno de los mejores del set y con capacidad de ser un single, también el gran single del disco "Kiss And Tell" con una esa impecable línea de bajo y esa fina guitarra muy en la línea de su placa anterior, por supuesto la brillante "The Right Stuff" que se nutría de ese fantástico tema de The Smiths aunque la de este disco es más fluida que la anterior y con la sección rítmica se vuelve más movida y menos fría. 

El disco gozó de una gran crítica, y fue considerado un logro fino y sofisticado, otro paso adelante en la carrera de Ferry, su voz es más profunda y encaja en las capas sonoras del disco, las letras más refinadas le da un toque mágico al disco, brindándonos una sólida melodía y un estilo embrujante y cautivador de principio a fin, el disco de una fuerza melódica muy bien desarrollado y una amplía variedad de estilos bailables no solo vino a confirmar la calidad de Ferry sino su compromiso inocuo con la sofisticación sonora.

El legendario Bryan Ferry presenta su versión del clásico "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" original de Burt Bacharach y con letra de Hal David, la cual fue popularizada en su momento por Dusty Springfield, esta es la más reciente canción que se extrae del nuevo trabajo de Ferry llamado "The Love Letters que es un recopilatorio sobre canciones clásicas de amor que acaba de salir.

Rocktrospectiva: "Dylanesque" El Homenaje A Bob Dylan De Bryan Ferry Cumple 15 Años

 

Lanzado el 5 de Marzo del 2007, "Dylanesque" fue el 12avo., estudio en la carrera del Británico Bryan Ferry, que no fue más que un homenaje en el más claro estilo art rock de Ferry, para homenajear a su ídolo.

 

Aunque Ferry ya había hecho algunos covers de temas como "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" y "It Ain't Me Babe", no fue sino hasta este disco que decidió dedicarle todo el espacio con su toque haciéndolo un clásico de la primera década del presente siglo. Curiosamente ese año, Dylan estuvo en el foco, primero por el film autobiográfico de Todd Haynes y luego por el premio Príncipe de Asturias que ganó en España, y es precisamente ese año cuando Ferry decide hacer un disco con una temática de Dylan que llamaría "Dylanesque", pero con un estilo art rock sophistipop que siempre nos ha gustado de parte de Ferry. 

Con su estilo vocal suave pero imponente, más una lista de canciones adecuadas que distan de su estilo original, Ferry nos lleva a un gran paseo sonoro a lo largo de 11 tracks para provocar emociones, buenos temas arropados con guitarras, bajos y baterias adecuadas para acompañar la voz de Ferry, y para muestra era el track "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" en donde las guitarras eléctricas le dan el toque al tema más la tipica armónica para darle una atmósfera única al mismo, y prepararnos al siguiente "Simple Twist Of Fate",  la original es más vocal y acústica pero en manos de Ferry, las guitarras eléctricas son el protagonista y arropan una sección de violines y armónica, pero el siguiente es más rápida y con una serie de sonidos para darle un toque más romántico en "Make You Feel My Love", la representativa "The Times They Are A-Changing" cambio gracias a la guitarra eléctrica, rápida y las habilidades vocales de Ferry para destacarla aun más. 

 

Se nos viene "All I Really Want To Do" en donde Ferry la toca más suelta y bailable con un toque más cercano a Roxy Music, y nos prepara para entrar a la legendaria "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" la original es profunda pero en manos de Ferry nos transmite calma sin perder la elegancia y siempre las guitarras y armónicas son parte fundamental, con "Positively 4th. Street" se nota un sentido más triste y discreto, prevalece el piano y la armónica, y entonces ya entramos en las etapas finales del disco viniéndose temas como "If Not For You", en donde Brian Eno aparece en escena dándole un toque electrónico muy cerca a Roxy Music, con "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down", la convierte en un tema rítmico y pegadizo, con "Gates Of Eden" se logra un efecto tenue y lento creando una atmósfera introspectiva a la misma, y finalmente llega la potente "All Along The Watchtower", en donde Ferry se apropia de la misma con un sonido eléctrico recordando el buen cover que le hizo Jimi Hendrix, aunque la diferencia es que Ferry la dota de más elegancia fiel a su estilo. 

 

Al final de cuentas, el disco fue un digno homenaje de parte de Ferry en su más mero estilo art rock vanguardista y sofisticado a su admirable Bob Dylan haciendo las canciones propias que reclaman ser escuchadas para los fans de ambos artistas, y entregándonos de esa manera, uno de los mejores discos de la primera década del presente siglo.

Rocktrospectiva: El Versatil "Frantic" Cumple 20 Años

Lanzado el 5 de Febrero del 2002, "Frantic" onceavo álbum de estudio en la carrera del Británico Bryan Ferry, contó on la producción de Rhett Davies, Colin Good, Dave Stewart, Robin Trower y el propio Ferry, lo que le dio un toque variado al sonido al cual muchos oyentes les parecío que el disco era como que una especie de identidad de crisis para el artista, pero en realidad es uno de sus trabajos más acabados y versatiles en la carrera de Bryan Ferry. 

 

El disco se nutre de clásicos como "Boys And Girls" y un poco del último Roxy Music antes de su salida, pese a todo, es el trabajo más cohesivo que Ferry había hecho en aquel entonces, dotandoló de buenos tracks, aparte que se las arregla para tocar virtualmente cada estilo musical en la carrera de Bryan Ferry, destacando la capacidad que tiene para sacar covers de otros artistas y este material no fue la excepción, hay dos temas de Bob Dyaln "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" el cual le da un sonido mucho más fino y ecléctico, con fuerte energía que recuerda al Roxy Music experimental, y "Don't Think Twice It's Alright", con una destacada harmonica de parte de Ferry para ir a la par del frenetico piano de Colin Good, el cover de Leadbelly "Goodnight Irene", reimagina a Ferry como un especie de trovador de Blues, y el trabajo impecable que le dan al tema "One Way Love" de The Drifters con guitarras electricas distorsionadas y teclados le da el toque clave al mismo.

 

Casi más de la mitad del disco se originó de sesiones que hicieron junto a Dave Stewart a finales de los 90's, por eso el mismo Stewart recibe el crédito en estas, aquí destacamos el single "Goddes Of Love" haciendo referencia a Marilyn Monroe, la influencia de Roxy Music vuelve a ser latente en "Hiroshima", con guitarras estridentes cortesía de Johnny Greenwood, y por supuesto finalmente "I Thought" co-escrita por Brian Eno, por lo que el mito de la crisis de identidad del mismo cae por los suelos y lo vuelve en uno de los discos más completos e interesantes en la carrera del Británico.

Se trata de un conocido tema "More Than This" original de Bryan Ferry y Roxy Music y que ahora la Estadounidense Angel Olsen versiona de manera magistral, y que viene incluída en su disco "Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories", esta versión lo bonito que tiene es que suena un poco más depresiva de lo habitual y no tan meláncolica, el clip es lindo también incluye tomas de Conor Hagen y Michael Harris, con fotográfias de Cameron McCool y Klyie Coutts y un movimiento peculiar a lo largo del clip a cargo de Chloe Hemingway.

Rocktrospectiva: El Elegante "Boys And Girls" Cumple 35 Años

Lanzado un 3 de Junio de 1985 "Boys And Girls " fue el sexto áblum de estudio en solitario del elegante y sofisticado Bryan Ferry, el otrora líder y voz de Roxy Music, el disco venía de nutrirse del sonido que provenía de "Avalon", destacando con fuerza su gran single "Slave To Love", que llegó a ser incluído en soundtracks como "Nine Weeks And A Half" y en el episodio "Bushido" de la segunda temporada de Miami Vice, el single sonó por doquier, aunque no estoy seguro que en Guatemala donde la música de Ferry rara vez suena, con el tiempo, este se convertiría en uno de los más grandes y reconocidos de Ferry, aunqe también se desprendieron otros grandes como "Don´t Stop To Dance" con un curioso video en donde para variar destacaba una hermosa modelo, también "Windswept" elegante y sensual y al final aunque poco promovido "Boys And Girls" aunque no era considerado un single oficial, este si tenía video. 

Fue el único disco No. 1 en la carrera en solitario de Ferry, además de serlo también en los Estados Unidos, y todo gracias a la icónica "Slave To Love" que tuvo alta rotación en la MTV, además en el tema tocaba el guitarrista Neil Hubbard, aunque otros grandes guitarristas como Mark Knopfler, David Gilmore, Keith Scott y Nile Rodgers aparecen en el disco. El disco destacaba por la fina, sofisticada y limpia visión que Ferry tenía de la sociedad, en vez de los sonidos explosivos y los extremos emocionales que uso en los 70's, aquí decidió ir suave y tranquilo con una música que apelaba también a la melancolía, lo que ayudaba a envolveral oyente dentro de un viaje sonoro y emocional, y eso ayudo a establecerlo como una fuerza hace 35 años, ganando un espacio en la cultura popular, no era raro ver por aquel entonces a muchos jovenes seguidores del disco, incluso le gustaba a Ferris Bueller, y sino me creen, denle una mirada a su cuarto en el filme en donde destacaba un poster de Bryan Ferry en alusión a "Slave To Love".
