Rocktrospectiva: The Sweet "Runaway Horses" Turns 35

Released on 3 October 1989, "Runaway Horses" was the third studio album by American singer Belinda Carlisle, the album contians fantastic artists as collaborators such as "George Harrison and Bryan Adams, the album spawned six singles "Leave A Light On", "(We Want) The Same Thing", "La Luna", "Summer Rain", "Runaway Horses", "& "Vision Of You", the album peaked at No. 37 on Billboard 200 and No. 4 in the UK.

After the huge succes of "Heaven On Earth", Carlisle released this new production aiming to produce more radio hits, you can easily hear that, cause this album features four big radio hits, including the powerful "Leave A Light On", which has an amazing melody with Belinda's powerful voice with an amazing George Harrison guitar solo, "La Luna" a Spanish-sound song, which means a certain challenge for her, a catchy and beatiful lyrics, "Summer Rain" is another standard with very long chorus and amazing lines, that makes of this a favourite through the years, "(We Want) The Same Thing" wasn't a huge hit but when it was remixed did it, a fantastic powerful tune with uplifting lyrics, the difference lies the album version is more pop, but the remix turn it into a powerful energic tune.

"Vision Of You" is a slow song quite and nicer, "Runaway Horses" a perfect pop song and one of the most underrated tracks of the album, another interesting track is "Shades Of Michaelangelo", but unfortunately is overlooked amongst good songs, but it makes the perfect closer, other fantastic tracks are "Whatever It Takes" featuring guest vocals of Bryan Adams, "Valentine" another cool one which might be considered as a hidden gem, and finally the emotional "Deep Deep Ocean" which is a beautiful and relaxing song, making this one, a truly gem of the 1980s.

Despite the album was noth strong as "Heaven On Earth" this still has likeable and appealing cool song, featuring an eclectic mix of cool pop tunes and introspective ballads, in order to showcase Carlisle's vocal strenght and her evolution as an artist back then, ensuring that each track was meticulously crafted. The album also has just that 80's tune with multi-layered soundscapes will not only deliver longtime fans a healthy dose of nostalgia, but will transport them, and any modern music lover back to what could be considered a simpler era where singles, live performances on television, interviews in magazines, and albums reigned supreme.
