La Recopilación: Manchester North Of England (A Story Of Independent Music From Greater Manchester 1977-1993

 

Después de revivir el C86 y continuar el legado, el sello Cherry Red Records ahora se lanza a rendirle homenaje a la norteña ciudad de Manchester, puesta en el mapa no solo por su gran equipo de football, el Manchester United sino también por su gran legado musical.

De los Buzzcocks a la reinvidicación del Britpop, "Manchester North Of England", es el último gran tributo a la corriente musical independiente de una de las ciudad más importante e iconicas dentro de la cultura pop, con un total de 146 tracks repartidos en 7-CDs deluxe box set, este maravilloso recopilatorio nos cuenta la historia de como el indie explotó en Manchester tras la influencia del punk y del lanzamiento seminal de The Buzzcocks "Spiral Scratch EP".

Junto a una exhaustiva y detallada información cortesía de uno de los periodistas musicales más importantes de la época, Mick Middles y una introducción a cargo de Mark Radcliffe, el box set pasa a mostrarnos el trabajo de muchas de las bandas claves de la región de finales de los 70's hasta principios de los 90's, pasando por Joy Division, The Fall, New Order, James, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Morrissey, John Cooper, Clarke, 808 State, A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column, The Charlatans y por supuesto Oasis. 

A pesar que la escena estuvo dominada por el combo tradicional de guitarra, bajo y batería que es lo que se refleja en la recopilación, también hay espacio para revisitar otros generos que van del reggae, el soul, los interpretes, el hip-hip, el techno, el industrial y la música dance. El recopilatorio ha sido inspirado por el famoso "Bop Cassettes" de 1988 desde el nombre hasta la imagen de portada, para presentar el box set en conjunto con MDMA (Manchester District Music Archive) en donde muchos de los track aparecen por primera vez en CD, haciendo un repaso desde los años de efervescencia punk pasando por el brillo y legado de Factory Recrods, el post punk, el período melodíco y jangly del C86, el Madchester, el Indie Dance y la transición de los primeros 90's para darle paso a la Coll Britannia de la mano del Britpop.
