Rocktrospectiva: The Simple And Cohesive "Riding On The Tide Of Love" Turns 5

Released on 5 February 2021 "Riding On The Tide Of Love" was the 10th., studio album by Scottish band Deacon Blue. The lead single from the album, the title track "Riding on the Tide of Love", was released on 27 November 2020.

Speaking about the release of Riding on the Tide of Love, lead singer Ricky Ross said: "We never expected to be here, but here we are with the album. When we released City of Love back in March 2020 we celebrated it getting to number one in Scotland and number four in the UK, we were looking forward to a summer of festivals followed by a big tour at the end of the year. As we all know, that didn’t happen and once the dust had settled we realised we weren't going to be going out on the road any time soon. Riding On The Tide Of Love is a continuation of City Of Love, a companion piece that we recorded piece by piece, going into the studio one by one to record our individual parts. In its own way it’s brought us all together, we hope it will bring you together too".

Three songs from the album, "Look Up", "Send a Note Out" and "She Loved the Snow", were written and recorded for the band's previous album, City of Love, but did not make the final cut for the album. The band decided to re-record these songs for inclusion on Riding on the Tide of Love instead.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland, each of the band members had to record the tracks for the album individually, citing that, despite this, the band had never felt "closer together" and "more connected". Lead singer Ricky Ross said: "The band went into the studio one by one to record our individual parts. In its own way it's brought us all together". Riding on the Tide of Love debuted at number 23 on the UK Albums Chart, spending one week on the chart before dropping out of the top 100. In their native Scotland, the album debuted at number two on the Scottish Albums Chart on the week 12 February 2021. 

Reviews of the album were mostly positive saying the album continued in the rich vein of at the time last year's City Of Love. Three of these songs came from the same recording sessions. None of them are fillers. However, none are in the same league as Dignity, which managed to be both morose and uplifting, or Your Town which made gloom danceable. But Deacon Blue have the rare ability to make love, hope, heartbreak, nostalgia and even rage catchy. The one thing you can bank on is that they remain true to themselves.

New Music: Late '88

           

Deacon Blue just announced the released of their 12th., studio album "The Great Western Road" and this is the first single taken from it "Late '88" now this is such a class song, that take us back to the late 80's where everything begins, nostalgia and modernism in one track, their brand new album will be out this 21st. March 2025.  

News: Deacon Blue Announces New Album

The iconic Scottish band Deacon Blue will release their 12th studio album, The Great Western Road, in March. As a celebration because this 2025 marks 40 years since the formation of Deacon Blue and this new album according to the band will reflect the journey they have taken. 

 

Honest to the age and experience that the band share. Frontman Ricky Ross says the album is "the next part of the adventure" which remains "as exciting now as it was back in 1988", now this is something cool and interesting especially because mostly of us, become fans of this band back then due their interesting and appealing sound.

The Great Western Road sees Ross, and guitarist Gregor Philp, on production duties, having produced the band's last studio album. The album was recorded by Matt Butler, who worked with the band on their debut Raintown. You can preview lead single 'Late '88', below.

The 12-track album is available on vinyl, CD and cassette, which also has signed bundles. On vinyl, The Great Western Road is available in a number of coloured pressings including transparent blue and an official shop white marble pressing.

The Great Western Road will be released 21 March 2025 via Cooking Vinyl.

Rocktrospectiva: El Fabuloso Y Exitoso "When The World Knows Your Name" Cumple 35 Años

 

Lanzado el 6 de Abril de 1989 "When The World Knows Your Name" bautizado así gracias a una canción de Steely Dan, fue el segundo álbum d estudio de la banda Escocesa Deacon Blue y les dio finalmente el éxito masivo que buscaban llegando al No. 1 en el Reino Unido, del disco se lanzaron cinco singles "Real Gone Kid", "Wages Day", "Fergus Sings The Blues", Love And Regret" y "Queen Of The New Year".

 

Si bien con el disco anterior tuvieron su dosis de fama, la banda se dio cuenta que faltaban mejores singles, por lo que buscaron mejorar todo eso en este nuevo disco, creando melodías fabulosas con ganchos pop sonoros amigable a la radio mainstream de la época pese a su sonido sophistipop, y pese a que le hacían un guiño a Steely Dan hasta con el título pero le debían más a bandas como Simple Minds y Prefab Sprout en cuanto a sonido y usanza, en el disco se apreciaba una buena mezcla de pop rock, y sophistipop con pinceladas de blue-eyed soul para crear un álbum mucho más pulido y producido que el anterior y que pese a tener ciertas carencias, eso era lo de menos en especial para los fans que abrazaron con todo este material. 

 

Pese a ello y cuando las cosas encajaban como se notaba en temas tales como "Queen Of The New Year", "Wages Day", "Real Gone Kid", "Fergus Sings The Blues" y "Love And Regret" la banda probada que estaban en lo mejor del momento de su sonido con temas melódicos llenos de ganchos pop además de letras llenas de líricas puras, por lo que se puede decir que el disco es quizás su material más fuerte y consistente lleno de energía y enfocado. 

 

El disco también tenía ciertos guiños a U2 y por eso mucha de la crítica del momento los consideraba unos mini U2, aunque eso en realidad era lo de menos, ya que la banda tenía temas de primera línea desde la pegajosa "Wages Day", pasando por la encantadora "Queen Of The New Year", la célebre "Fergus Sings The Blues", la brillante y masiva "Real Gone Kid", y las encantadoras "Love And Regret" y "Orphans", por un momento Ricky Ross estaba en lo suyo junto a Lorraine McIntosh que era como la Wendy Smith de Prefab Sprout además del resto de miembros que le daban el toque perfecto al grupo, lastima que con los años, la banda fue perdiendo feeling pero al menos dejaron como gran legado este perfecto disco.

La Recopilación: You Can Have It All "The Complete Albums Collection"

Deacon Blue anuncia el lanzamiento del recopilatorio "You Can Have It All - The Complete Albums Collection", en donde se recopila toda la carrera de la banda a lo largo de un box set de 14CD junto a un 2CD llamado "Best Of - All THe Old 45s - The Very Best Of Deacon Blue". 

 

El box set reúne los diez álbumes de estudio de la banda, dos álbumes de lados B/rarezas "Riches" (1988), "Ohh Las Vegas" (1990) y "Peace Will Come", así como un nuevo álbum llamado "Deconstructed And Rearranged" con versiones acústicas de las canciones inspiradas por los campfire sets, que presentaron en el último tour de la banda. 

 

El box set All The Old 45s - The Very Best Of Deacon Blue estará disponible en edición de 2CD y 2LP con 41 tracks en el primero y 24 canciones en cuatro vinilos. Todos incluyen una nueva remasterización aunque para los álbumes del box set no hay remasterización.

Rocktrospectiva: El Disco de Pop Perfecto "Raintown" Cumple 35 Años

 

Lanzado el 1 de Mayo de aquel vibrante 1987, "Raintown" álbum debut de la banda Escocesa Deacon Blue y considerado por muchos como el álbum perfecto de pop, fue un éxito absoluto en el Reino Unido, pese a ser un disco conceptual en donde se narraban las peripecias y luchas de la vida urbana en una gran ciudad como lo es Glasgow, lo cual quedaba de manifiesto por las raíces de la banda y las imágenes que venían en el disco cortesía del fotógrafo Oscar Marzaroli. 

 

Curiosamente y pese a que el disco se vendió muy bien, ninguno de sus impecables y brillantes singles alcanzó más allá del top 20, irónico no!, ya que el disco se mantiene hasta nuestros días como el más fino e impecable de la banda, y que contaba historia de amor, de perdida, fe, trabajo y el hogar, mantiene su aura atemporal y sus temas son tocados en directo por la banda hasta la fecha. El disco fue grabado en Londres entre Diciembre de 1986 y Febrero de 1987 en los estudios AIR, contó con la participación en la producción de Jon Kelly, cuya influencia sonora se hizo notar en el disco, el productor venía de producir bandas icónicas como The Beautiful South, Prefab Sprout, Heather Nova, y artistas como Chris Rea, Paul McCartney y Kate Bush.

Las grabaciones fueron en directo con todos juntos en una sola habitación tocando al mismo tiempo, lo que le dio al disco una gran conexión y energía y por eso en las presentaciones en directo se siente esa vibra cuando tocan estos temas,  el disco abría con "Born In A Storm", melódico tema con una atmósfera brillante y que conectaba con la siguiente "Raintown" que obedecía a la temática del disco en donde el tiempo en este caso el característico de la región que era nuboso y con lluvia dominaba en el disco, dentro del disco venía la icónica "Dignity", la más directa y entrañable del disco que junto a The Very Thing" trataban sobre el desempleo y el sueño de algo mejor y más digno, "Dignity"  fue el single principal y con el que la banda logró llamar la atención de la CBS para firmar un contrato.

 

Otros tema como la brillante "Loaded" trataba sobre lidiar con el dinero y eventualmente se lanzó también con single igual de descriptivo y entrañable como el primero, también habían temas que atacaban la vida urbana como "Town To Be Blamed", hermosa y muy directa, pero tampoco faltaron las baladas, hermosos temas como "Chocolate Girl", "Love's Freat Fears" y "When Will You (Make My Telephone Ring" esta última quizás con uno de los títulos más cursi del set, pero que al escucharla desdibuja todos esos conceptos predeterminados al respecto. 

El disco paso 77 semanas dentro de los charts en el Reino Unido llegando al No. 14., no fue de éxito inmediato, fue de a poco ganando el beneplácito de la crítica y lo que les permitió forjarse una solida base de fans todavía vigente hoy en día, y que se mantiene como uno de los discos más brillantes del sophistipop hasta la fecha.

Placeres Sonoros: Riding On The Tide Of Love

           

La banda Escocesa Deacon Blue vuelve a escena de la mano de este primer track llamado "Riding on The Tide Of Love" siempre con su tradicional y fino sonido pop, el cual se extrae de lo que será su mini álbum de ocho tracks homónimo para venir alegrarnos este 2021 todavia en plan pandemia.

Rocktrospectiva: El Recordado "When The World Knows Your Name" Cumple 30 Años

Fue el 2do., disco de la banda Escocesa Deacon Blue, y que hace fama a su nombre "When The World Knows Your Name" ya que fue con el que llegaron a ser muy conocidos al menos en el Reino Unido alcanzando el No. 1 en el chart de Álbumes, además contenía varios singles brillantes como el hit "Real Gone Kid", y otros igual de exitosos que alcanzaron el top 30 como "Wages Day", "Fergus Sing The Lbues", "Love And Regret" y "Queen Of The New Year".  

El disco fue muy aclamado y les hizo ganar una respetada base de fans, logrando hacer una serie de conciertos a lleno total, de pronto el esfuerzo pagaba su recompensa a la banda que parecía consagrarse, y es que muchos de los temas fueron pensados para ser de esos temas que a uno le gusta escuchar cuando va manejando en este caso camino a la natal Raintown como decía el vocalista Ricky Ross, aunque también había una ambición de pode romper el molde tradicional de esa ciudad, por lo que trabajaron con multiples productores, en diferentes estudios para lograr un sonido más envolvente y grande, y con una mejor producción naturalmente. 

El disco iba a llamarse "Las Vegas", por lo frustrante que fue su grabación, muchas tardanzas en cuanto a la producción debido a la enfermedad de algunos productores, una desagradable grabación en Estados Unidos con David Kahne, que hizo que el álbum quedara retrasado por al menos 1 año, pero al final todo quedo en el olvido gracias al éxito inesperado que llegó a tener "Real Gone Kid" en el Reino Unido alcanzando el 8avo., puesto, y además dio a conocer a la banda a nivel mundial, lo que permitió que el disco fuera No. 1 en el Reino Unido desbancando "Like A Prayer" de Madonna, esto hizo que los boletos para sus conciertos se vendieran en cuestión de horas, llenando auditorios universitarios y teatros para luego pasar a las arenas. 

El disco es uno de los más grandes logros que ha tenido la banda, les hizo ganar una buena reputación aunque en Estados Unidos no fue tanto, el tema "Real Gone Kid" sigue siendo muy solicitado hasta la fecha e incluso aparecío en el filme "Eddie The Eagle" del 2016 y no digamos el montón de recopilaciones de finales de los 80's en donde siempre aparece.

Segundo single oficial que se desprende del disco "Belivers" de la banda Deacon Blue, como ya habiamos dicho es el último de una trilogía comenzada en el 2012, el tema refleja la relación amorosa de una pareja que poco a poco comienza resentirse por las presiones y quehaceres cotidianos del trabajo.

Discos: Believers

Deacon Blue esta de vuelta con un nuevo disco "Believers", y estará disponible en una deluxe box set. El disco ha sido marcado con la tercera parte de una trilogía que comenzó en el 2012 con el disco "The Hipsters" que después continuo en el 2014 con "A New House", el single debut ya salío al mercado y lleva por nombre "The Believers".

Acerca del single, Ricky Ross lo describe como una canción que marca una declaración acerca de la fe en las posibilidades de la esperanza y un mejor mañana según el lado que nosotros escogamos, el disco fue remezclado y producido por Paul Savage y estará disponible en vinilo y CD, pero la más apetecible es el box set, ya que incluye varios formatos.

El box set incluye un bonus CD doblado: "What We Left Out", y contiene una generosa cantidad de 27 tracks de demos y tomas de las grabaciones de "Believers" llegando hasta cuatro tracks inéditos "Sunshite State", "Dusk", "Easter Sunday", y "Snow Still On Cars", además el box set incluye como rareza una cinta exclusiva de un material inédito también y que ha sido recientemente remasterizado, se trata de un directo "Live At the Dominion Theatre", London, 26th October 1988. El diseño de portada de la cinta ha sido recreado del original de Ricky Ross, ahora si ya no tienen casetera no se preocupen, ya que el material viene con un codigo para que pueda ser descargado, incluyendo los bonus tracks "You Don't Understand" grabado en 1989.

Sin duda un buen material para regalar que viene decentemente impreso y con un aire de una era clásica que ya se fue, los 80's y 90's gracias al CD, el generoso cassette y los bonus CD, junto al nuevo disco.

La banda británica Deacon Blue estrena su nuevo single "The Believers" el primero que se extrae de su nuevo disco "Believers" que forma parte de una trilogía iniciada en el 2012 con "The Hipsters" y que contínuo en el 2014 "A New House" el track es una canción reflexiva en parte, acerca de las escenas proyectadas de desesperación entre los refugiados intentando cruzar el Mediterraneo y cualquier otro lugar, todo un himno de esperanza.
