News: Blondie Announce Their First New Album In 10 Years And The Last To Feature Late Clem Burke

Legendary band Blondie have announced a new album, High Noon, which will be the band's first new album in a decade and will include the final recordings of drummer/co-founder Clem Burke, who died in 2025.

The new album is led by original Blondie and remaining members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. The album also features Glen Matlock of Sex Pistols, Zach Condon of Beirut, and Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius.

The album follows 2017's Pollinator, which also featured Johnny Marr, as well as Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes), Charli XCX, Sia, TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, Joan Jett, Laurie Anderson, The Strokes’ Nick Valensi, and others.

Sessions for High Noon began with John Congleton, who also produced Pollinator. Then the band worked with David Wrench  for additional production and mixing.

About the record: "Is classic Blondie—an amalgamation of all our different influences and eras into something new," says Debbie Harry in a press release. "This music feels grounded in the present, shaped by who we are and how we're living now."

"It's been a long, strange ride, and somehow here we are with another Blondie album," says Chris Stein. I’m not sure what the fuck I'm supposed to say at this point, except that we're incredibly grateful for all your support over the years."

Rob Roth did the album's artwork, visualiser videos, and a short film he directed for the album. He worked with creative studio Untold Studios. Roth has been working with the band since 1999's No Exit. I wanted to create something unexpected, but something that still feels quintessentially Blondie, says Roth. High Noon exists in its own world—somewhere between the past, present and future. There are references to different eras and the band’s history, all mixed together to create something that feels both familiar and new.

High Noon Track List:

1. Spectral Eyes
2. Heartbreak Kid
3. Come Back Home
4. Tambo Tambo
5. Man Who Had No Face
6. The End
7. Little Metal Drummer
8. Sleepwalking
9. Whistle Into The Wind
10. Antifreeze
11. East of Eden
12. Bad Underwear
13. Ah, Sunflower, Weary of Time

New Music: It's Time

Johnny Marr shares a new single "It's Time" the third cut from his upcoming fifth solo album "The Age of Everything" – following "Spin" and "Ophelia" – sees Marr “singing about some worldly issues but finding defiance in idealism”. He explains: “I wanted a lyric that matched the exuberance of the music but is actually about resisting cynicism and corruption: ‘Everybody ain’t making it / Change the weather and breaking it / Mobilise to know the truth / Open eyes to know the truth.’ A music video was filmed earlier this year at Marr's biggest solo headline gig to date, at Manchester's Castlefield Bowl

Books: It's Time The Tale Were Told "A People's History Of The Smiths"

It's Time The Tale Were Told – A People’s History of The Smiths is the story of the UK’s most influential indie band. This book collects together 500 first-hand memories from fans, support acts, promoters, fanzine writers, record store owners and the band's lighting designer of the band in action. From the earliest club shows through to the final gig at London's Brixton Academy, and including memories of more than 20 North American dates, this is a portrait of The Smiths painted by those who were there. With personal photographs, memorabilia, anecdotes and first-hand accounts of over 150 gigs in total, readers get a front row view of Manchester’s indie music legends in action.

The Smiths were indeed a moment in time marking a point in the early 80s when "Indie" moved from being "small audience material on minor record labels" to a crossover into the mainstream.
This is not intended to be a definitive history but a history across 300 pages told by those who were involved, were there, bear the scars, and still hold the highest esteem for an outspoken (some would say odd-ball) singer, musical partner in crime and tune, plus backing from a solid if un-noticed (until the court case) rhythm section.

The stories range from their fist gig at The Hacienda when Morrissey got annoyed with the crowd and the poster stating “We are THE Smiths, not just Smiths”, to first appearances on The Tube and Top Of The Pops (not as many stories of people going home, buying a deaf aid and waving gladioli about as I though there may have been), to the last recording sessions in Streatham, before Johnny Marr quits and the NME publish the “Smiths To Split” headline.

The band's time was brief (effectively 1983 to 1987 as a recording unit), but in the same time it took Yes to go from 90125 to Big Generator, The Smiths had formed, released 4 albums, 2 compilations and 20 singles, and disbanded. Indeed, they started something that they couldn’t finish. Didn’t hang about to actually finish it, and have spent years fighting each other to make sure they don’t actually finish it.

News: Morrissey And Johnny Marr Have Worked On A New Rare Vinyl Released From The Smiths

Morrissey and Johnny Marr have both helped to create a rare new seven-inch release from The Smiths, as part of an upcoming Rough Trade boxset.

The legendary London independent label will release its second volume of newly printed classic singles, titled ‘Rough Trade 45s: Volume 2’, on October 30. It will comprise tracks from The Fall, Aztec Camera, Mazzy Star, Scritti Politti, Robert Wyatt and more, and the boxset will be limited to just 1000 copes, released on October 30.

Among them is a new release from The Smiths, with "The Headmaster Ritual" on the A-side, and "I Want The One I Can't Have" on the flip side. Both songs originally appeared on the band’s second album "Meat Is Murder" in 1985, but they were never released as a single on Rough Trade.

Now, they will be available as a single for the first time, with Morrissey and Marr both requesting the two tracks. Morrissey has also overseen the creation of the new artwork, choosing a 1939 image of the American actor Billy Halop. It follows in the tradition of The Smiths' artwork throughout their career, with Morrissey having previously selected the likes of Truman Capote, Candy Darling, Alain Delon and Elvis Presley.

Both Morrissey and Marr have also both contributed sleeve notes for the release, and the booklet will also include writing from Elvis Costello, Stewart Lee, Green Gartside, Jonathan Richman and The Go-Betweens' Robert Forster.

New Music: Spin

Johnny Marr has shared "Spin" the first single taken from his forthcoming and 5th., album "The Age Of Everything" due out October 2. Marr describes the 10 songs as the most cathartic of his entire career, written in London a developped live during his tour across USA, then recorded in Manchester to capture the joy, energy and tensions of the city, "There is a pressure in today's culture due technology, but seeing it from another perspetiva also could be a sort of possibility, the tune is pretty intense with certain reminds of Electronic.

News: Morrissey Is Seeking To Sell His Rights To The Smith's Songs

Morrissey is selling the rights to the Smiths’ name, likeness, and intellectual property to "any interested party/investor,"  the band's former frontman announced on his blog today.

Morrissey has no choice but to offer for sale all of his business interests in The Smiths to any interested party/investor reads the announcement that includes:

  • The name ‘The Smiths’, as created by Morrissey.
  • All Smiths artwork, as created by Morrissey.
  • All Smiths merchandising rights.
  • All Smiths songs lyrically / musically.
  • All synchronisation rights.
  • All Smiths recordings.
  • All contractual rights for Smiths publishing.”

Morrissey adds:

I am burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations. With my entire life I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images. I would now like to live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction, and this is the only resolution. The songs are me — they are no one else — but they bring with them business communications that go to excessive lengths to create as much dread and spite year after year. I must now protect myself, especially my health.

Around this time last year, a representative for Morrissey said that his ex-bandmate Johnny Marr — with whom he has a deeply-rooted beef — had successfully applied for the trademark rights of the Smiths name.

The Guardian, however, reports that right now, Morrissey and Marr each share 50% of the band rights. So it's a bit unclear how this transfer of ownership will play out, but if anyone reading is interested, Morrissey has instructed investors to email eaves7760@gmail.com.

Rocktrospectiva: The Magnificent "Getting Away With It" Turns 35

Released on 4 December 1989 "Getting Away With It" was the first single by the English super group Electronic, comprised by Bernard Sumner (New Order), Johnny Marr (The Smiths), and guesting vocalist Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys).

Basically, Bernard Sumner wrote the verse and Johnny Marr wrote the chorus. The lyrics, co-written by Tennant with Sumner, are a parody of Marr's Smiths partner Morrissey, and his public persona as morose and masochistic. Morrissey, for his part, criticised the song in a 1991 interview, calling it "totally useless" and joking that the song had a "very apt title".

Back in 2021 during an interview with Music Radar, Marr revealed that Chris Lowe also worked on the track, citing the bassline as his work. ABC and The The drummer David Palmer programmed the track's drums. The fluid, rich production incorporates a full orchestra (conducted by Art of Noise's Anne Dudley) and a rare guitar solo by Marr, while the three remixes that appeared on the two UK 12-inch releases take in disparate musical styles like disco and acid house.

Released as a single "Getting Away with It" was first issued by Factory Records in the United Kingdom in December 1989, and released the following year in the rest of the world. It appeared on 7-inch, 12-inch, CD and cassette. The primary B-side was an instrumental called "Lucky Bag", the only unadulterated reflection of Marr and Sumner's early, shared enthusiasm for Italo house. This song was also remixed and released on the UK maxi single.

The single artworl was designed by Peter Saville, who used an elegant stock photo of a glass of whisky. The title was originally written in sentence case, just as Pet Shop Boys songs are. The photograph was inverted for the second UK 12-inch, with the typeface from the Panasonic logo appropriated for the band's name. This arrangement was used for the US editions of the single in 1990.

The music videos for "Getting Away with It" were two. The first, directed by Chris Marker and produced by Michael Shamberg for European use in 1989, featured Sumner, Marr and Tennant in a studio environment miming to the single edit of the song. Additional footage of Marker's muse Catherine Belkhodja, strolling among peacocks through Paris Zoo and also singing to the track, was left out. The second video, shot in 1990, was made for the US release. Sumner and Tennant appeared, alternately, against a series of coloured background, with artistic effects superimposed. Two women's faces are also panned in close-up.

The critics called the released as the most complete pop record of the week, by an infinite margin...A lovely airy melody drifts in and out of the song; gently weighted with obtuse, lovelorn one-liners...The record somehow manages to be much more than the sum of its parts and stubbornly refuses to give up its element of mystery". On the other hand, some critics were not so impressed and concluded that the single better than New Order, worse than Pet Shop Boys, with Marr conspicuous by his abstinence".

The single peaked at No.12 in the UK and No. 38 in the USA, it was played live in August 1990 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles when Electronic supported Depeche Mode on their World Violation Tour for two dates, along with "Get The Message" and "Disappointed" it remains their best known son, and their biggest selling singl.

5. Can't Find My Way Home

Rocktrospectiva: El Single Debut De The Smiths "Hand In Glove" Cumple 40 Años

Rocktrospectiva: El Ingenioso "The Messenger" Cumple 10 Años

New Town Velocity" quien tenía ciertos aires a The Smiths.

The Messenger Track List:

1. The Right Thing Right
2. I Want The Hearbeat
3. European Me
4. Lockdown
5. The Messenger
6. Generate!, Generate!
7. Say Demesne
8. Sun And Moon
9. The Crack Up
10. New Town Velocity
11. Word Starts Attack

Placeres Sonoros: Strong Forever

Discos: Fever Dreams Pts 1-4

Fever Dreams Pts 1 - 4 Track List:

1. Spirit Power And Soul
2. Receiver
3. All These Days
4. Ariel
5. Lightning People
6. Hideaway Girl
7. Sensory Street
8. Tenement Time
9. The Speed Of Love
10. Night And Day
11. Counter Clock World
12. Rubicon
13. God's Gift
14. Ghosten
15. The Whirl

Primicia: Night And Day

Placeres Sonoros: Sensory Street

Primicia: Tenement Time
