Rocktrospectiva: Cohesive And Remarkable "We Too Are One" Turns 35

Released on 11 September 1989, "We Too Are One" was the seventh studio album by British duo Eurythmics, it would be the duo's last studio album until 1999's "Peace", the duo went literally out in style, releasing a recording with broad pop range emerging with one of their best albums since "be Yourself Tonight" from 1985. The album spawned five singles "Revival", "Don't Ask Me Why", ""The King And Queen Of America", "Angel" & finally "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry". 

 

Critics seen this album as a way to prepare Annie Lennox's debut solo album "Diva" thinking about the single "Don't Ask Me Why" that peaked the Top 40 in the United States, served as a precursor of her typical dramatica ballads to come, but at the end this record returned Eurythmics to number one in the album charts, ann confirming that it was time for Lennox and Dave Stewart to pursue other opportunities. 

 

Eurythmics return to their R&B-infused rock/pop on their final studio album in the 80s. A stronger album than 1986's Revenge, and equalling with Be Yourself Tonight as their best work in this territory. 

The lead single, "Don't Ask Me Why", is a gorgeous, well-produced song that deservedly gave them their first US top 40 hit in years. The opener title track is their deepest foray into the blues with Annie's vocals and Dave's guitar engaging in an impressive section that any blues fan would really  love. "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry" is also a blues workout with a rare shared vocal between Annie and Dave. "Revival" is a familiar tribute to Motown that is nearly as good as "Would I Lie to You?" And, despite the title, "You Hurt Me (and I Hate You)" is one of the best, dramatic, and most melodic songs on the album.

The track "The King and Queen of America" is the Eurythmics at their finest. The upbeat, disco-leaning production and grandness of the song and video betray its true character. Annie savagely critiques the "accomplishments" of the great USA! The neo-imperialistic military, the facade of Hollywood's dream world, the cult of personality American TV holds up, while other tracks such as "How Long?" and "When The Days Goes Down" offered a quite good vibe and sound while the rest of the tracks are quite good returning the band back on top at least in the UK.

Rocktrospectiva: El Exitoso "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" Cumple 40 Años

Lanzado el 4 de Enero de 1983, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" fue el segundo álbum de estudio del dueto Británico Eurythmics formado por Annie Lennox y Dave Stewart, fue el álbum que les abrió las puertas del éxito pese a que tras un disco debut que no llamó la atención a nadie, de pronto con este disco y gracias al masivo single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" que alcanzó el éxito en ambos lados del charco, el dueto finalmente se volvió sensación.

 

El disco combinaba synth pop para arropar potentes melodías, y una gran presencia de parte de la vocalista Annie Lennox, además del gran aporte del guitarrista Dave Stewart, creando su estilo a partir del electro pop Alemán que era su estilo particular. Los primeros dos singles "This Is The House" con cierto toque latino y el segundo "The Walk" con una vibra más jazz, no lograron entrar dentro del gusto particular, entonces se lanzó un 3ero., "Love Is A Stranger" que ya se había lanzado, volvio a llamar la puerta y esta vez alcanzó el No. 10 en el Reino Unido, en los Estados Unidos en cambio el clip fue censurado calificando a la cantante como un travesti corruptor de menores.

 

Esto sin duda, preparó el camino para lo que se venía con el cuarto single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" que mantenía la misma base, pero la clave fue el video que tomó a todos por sorpresa en los albores de la MTV, gracias a esa imagineria entre andrógina de parte de la cantante como clara rebeldía frente a la cultura sexista ochentera, entonces la Lennox pasó a ser parte de varias portadas volviendo a una tímida chica en un icono del momento, el tema alcanzó el No. 1 en Inglaterra y el No. 2 en los Estados Unidos. 

 

El disco tenía otros temas igual de buenos como "This City Never Sleeps" y "Wrap It Up" que también tenía lo suyo frente a la fría y calculadora "Sweet Dreams", pero al final de cuentas, dieron en el punto y a partir de 1983, el dueto tendría mejor suerte en los listados que los llevaría a seguir en activo hasta finales de los 80's.

La Noticia: Dan A Conocer A Los Nominados A La Inducción Del "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" 2022

Acaban de dar a conocer a los nominados para la inducción al "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2022", con un total de 17 nominados para este año, en donde la sopresa ha sido Duran Duran y Kate Bush, junto a ellos están Devo, Eurythmics, MC5, Dolly Parton, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Donne Warwick, New York Dolls, Fela Kuti, Rage Against the Machine, Pat Benatar, Eminem, Judas Priest, Carly Simon y Lionel Richie. 

 

La lista final de los nuevos inducidos será anunciada en Mayo, luego de que los miembros hagan sus votaciones, no se conocen detalles todavía sobre la ceremonia de inducción de este año. de igual forma, los fanaticos pueden votar, pero como siempre, solo podrán elegir a cinco en este link: rockhall vote y tendrán hasta el 29 de Abril para hacerlo. 

Los artistas son elegidos tomando en cuenta que tengan al menos 25 de carrera luego de su primer lanzamiento, Kate Bush ya había sido nominada en el 2017 y 2021, Devo fue en el 2018 y 2021, es la primera vez de Duran Duran, A Tribe Called Quest, Dolly Parton, Beck, Eminem, Lionel Richie y Carly Simon, esperamos que esta vez queden artistas afines, el año pasado quedó The Go-Go's y Kraftwerk, y un año antes fue el turno de Depeche Mode, bandas como The Cure, Radiohead y Roxy Music lo hicieron en el 2019, pero todavía no hay nominaciones de The Smiths, Morrissey o Pet Shop Boys.
