Rocktrospectiva: The Underrated "Theodore And Friends" Turns 40

Released on May 1985 "Theodore And Friends" was the debut album from the Northern Irish rock band the Adventures, released in 1985. The album spawned four singles "Another Silent Day", "Feel The Raindrops", "Two Rivers" and the brilliant "Send My Heart". 

The Adventures were a rock band formed in Belfast in the 1980s who moved to London where they had hits in the UK Singles Chart during the 1980s.  Released back in 1985, "Theodore and Friends"was an album that proved The Adventures were one of the most underrated bands around at that time.  

 

The first single from the album "Another Silent Day" peaked at No. 71, "Feel The Raindrops" peaked at No. 58,  "Two Rivers" peaked at No. 96,  but the superb "Send My Heart" - a top quality 80's single which made it into the UK top 40 and became a hit in Italy and Germany, this helped the single to be featured on the soundtrack to the horror movie Demoni the same year. The album reached #65 in Germany, but did not chart in the UK. In the US, the album was released under the title The Adventures with a modified track listing and different cover artwork. 

During promotion for the follow-up album, member Pat Gribben stated that he wasn't fully happy with Theodore and Friends stating that "You could hear the production problems". In 1990 he commented favourably on the track "When the World Turns Upside Down" saying that unlike the other tracks it remained fresh whereas the rest of the album relied too heavily on current production and musical trends. 

 

The single "Feel The Raindrops" that was a massive radio and chart hit also in certain areas, this was a sparkling 80s guitar pop of the highest order, one of the best songs on here, which are many, will make you come back to it and leave a strong first impression, definitely the strenght on this record was the sound of the guitars whos had a nice shimmer, not over done, but enough to let the songs breathe. the album after this is good, but this album is stellar. another silent day is an awesome song and can be seen and heard on youtube. 

 

There were many great tracks on this record but unfortunately they were just another band with so much potential, but a combination of poor marketing and underexposure doomed them to relative obscurity outside, even thought "Theodore and Friends" is striking and of course "Send My Heart" was a masterpiece, the album didn't had the recognition it deserved.

Rocktrospectiva: El Épico E Infravalorado "The Sea Of Love" Cumple 35 Años

Lanzado el 9 de Mayo de 1988, "The Sea Of Love" fue el segundo álbum de estudio de la banda NorIrlandesa The Adventures, escrito en su totalidad por Pat Gribben y bajo la producción de Pete Smith y Garry Bell, el álbum marcó una fuerte evolución de lo que fue su formidable debut, del mismo se lanzaron dos singles la increíble "Drowning In The Sea Of Love" y "Broken Land" que fue su único top 40 en el Reino Unido y su única entrada en el Billboard por más increíble que suene, y de último se lanzó "One Step From Heaven". 

 

La banda acaba de obtener un nuevo contrato con Elektra, por lo que los recursos eran mejores, y así quedo plasmado, el disco alcanzó el No. 30 en el Reino Unido y No. 144 en el Billboard 200, el disco destaca por sus impecables harmonias, sus vibrantes guitarras y jugosos sintetizadores, que le dieron más realce al brillante sonido que traína en su debut, una producción por ende más pulida que buscaba un sonido más épico y no por ello, la banda pierde su fuerza, las vocales intensas y llenas de sentimiento de parte de Terry Sharpe, para darle realce al álbum explotando su fragilidad y fuerza al mismo de su voz poniéndola en primer plano, desde la melancolía en "Broken Land" causada por la violencia religiosa en Irlanda, el lugar de nacimiento de Sharpe, además que se arropa por esos sintetizadores y robusta percusión, lo mismo se aprecia en temas como "You Don't Have To Cry Anymore", y "The Sound Of Summer", en donde de nuevo las adoloridas vocales levante el espíritu del oyente, otros temas destacables eran "Hold Me Now" y "When Your Heart Was Young" para convencer al oído más exigente, punto aparte la música del disco gracias a un talentoso guitarrista como lo era Pat Gribben sabiendo como usar y modificar el volumen de su amplificador pasando de un estridente sonido a un pop brillante.

 

El disco fue un fuerte paso marcaban distancias de su debut, fue el disco que buscaba llevarlos a la cima, con un sonido entre Simple Minds y U2 lleno de épicos paisajes sonoros y allí radica la fuerza de este disco que dejó tantos buenos recuerdos y sabor de boca entre los oídos más finos, la crítica fue impecable y optimista, clara mención a las vocales de Terry Sharpe llenas de harmonias y el sonido de Pat Gribben, el disco muy lleno de frescura y una adulterada fineza que fue una notable mejora en su carrera.
