Released on 16 October 1989, "Wild!" was the fourth studio album by English synth pop duo Erasure, produced by the band, alongside with Gareth Jones and Mark Saunders, the album spawned four singles "Drama!", "You Surround Me", "Blue Savannah" & "Star".
After the succesful of "The Circus" and "The Innocentes", the duo released "Wild!" with a more sophisticated sound with more complex arrangements, the formula worked and this album was the second of what would be four consecutive No. 1 albumes in the UK, selling over 600,000 copies. The album opened with "Piano Song - Instrumental", considered a pointless track a minute long in order to set the listener for the record, just a filler as far as I remeber, but then, things really seemed to worked it out with the beautiful and magnificent "Blue Savannah" one of the duo0s highest charting single still a favourite amongst fan setting the duo's signature with sweeping piano, faux strings and a crisp synth effect, unfortunately the video was an atrocity crap. "Drama!", another top 5 that helped to cement the duo's dominance on th charts, with a complicatedd arrangement that become a dancefloor anthem.
Then a pack paced tracks such as the ballad "How Many Times", "You Surround Me" and "Crown Of Thorns" perfectly arranged thanks the talented Vince Clark an his way to create melodies, but unfortunately there certain fillers like the awful "La Gloria", despite its arrangements of flamenco guitar was not a really cool track, then "Brothers And Sister" had a sjarp synth hook and chorus, "2000 Miles"was nice but nothing more than that, and sometimes felt like a waster, and finally "Piano Song" another version of the opener track, but this time Andy Bell get in some of his best way to sing.
The successful of the album prompted the release of a fourth single "Star" a high powered pop song to remember. The album peaked at No. 1 in the UK and No. 57 in the United States, this helped Erasure to launched their first elaborate staged concert tour, with gigantic sets and props, costumes and several back-up singers and dancers, proving the band still was on their way to popularity back then.
