Rocktrospectiva: Powerful "The Real Thing" Turns 35

Released on 20 June 1989, "The Real Thing" was the third studio album by American band Faith No More, it was the first album to feature singer Mike Patton following dismisall of Chuck Mosley, their previous singer, the album has an eclectic sound combining elements of funk metal, rap metal and alternative rock, spawning five single "From Out To Nowhere", "Epic", "Falling To Pieces", "Surprise! You're Dead" & "Edge Of The World".

The origins of this breakthrough album comes after the tour for "Introduce Yourself" emerging a demo version of "The Morning After", "Surprise! You're Dead", and then, Mike Patton arrived and finished to wrote the rest of the songs and then recorded them the following month over the music, definitely the last minute recruit of Patton was a plus, adjusting the process so well, his insane wide-ranging musical interest would be great for the record, vibrant riffs, rhythm slams and heavy cool synth sounds worth the listen, fabulous lounge sound vibes on "Edge Of The World" the curious Arabic melodies on "Woodpeckers From Mars", the powerful "Falling To Pieces" astonishing performed by Patton, the intense "Surprise! You're Dead" are amongst the most powerful tracks on the record, but "Epic" has a proper distiction on its own, the timeless single, powerful and bombastic that finished with that touching piano took the band into another level and worldwid popularity, and finally the Black Sabbath cover "War Pigs" is a truly well-crafted cover the audiences took it and love it so much.

The Real Thing, is definitely one of the most successful albums to date in their career, a classic standard between metal fans and critics alike, it was something like a slow-burner, it would took nearly a year to reach the Billboard 200, after the released of "Epic" was when the album peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, the kings of neo metal was the perfect accurate for the band, even though the band has a wider sound influence, that was the reason that the genre for the album wa so confusing back then, roaming between funk, metal and rock instrumental with sorts of easy listening, that still sounds fresh and intense 35 years later.
