Released on 22 July 2014, "Alvvays" was the studio debut album by Canadian indie pop outfit Alvvays which literally came out of nowhere with a quick blaze of blissful indie pop for the ages, the album spawned five singles "Adult Diversion", "Archie, Marry Me", "Next Of Kin", & "Party Police".
The album came out from nowhere, in a time in which we're not sure how to pronounce their name, a strong debut by a rookie band with just nine beautiful tracks around 30 minutes, the album is a perfect example of its form, and ten years later, still enjoyable to play it, from the stunner "Next of Kin" to the beloved anti-love song but thrilling "Archie, Marry Me", this practically put the band on worldwide radar and literally overshadows the rest of the record.
It doesn't matter, the record stands on its own, opened with "Adult Diversion" a millennial anthem on the timeless theme of unrequited love, there are lots of songs about that subject, next "Archie, Marry Me" and then we get "Ones Who Love You", a delicate comedown from the drama of Archie that continues to grip the audience with their lyrics about weather, another good one was "Next Of Kin" tender and gentle melodic tune, many says the album peak with the heart-wrenching "Party Police" and then it fades into "The Agency Group" as a way to clear all the dark feelings, and then finished with the fairly good ones ""Dives", "Atop a Cake", & "Red Planet" to finished a nearly perfect indie pop album.
The album released among music fans in Toronto just few months before its US debut and became a sort of word-of-mouth success back in 2014, a kind of record you had to tell your pals about it, and this really helped the band to established as a leading act of indie pop bands in the same league as Belle Or Sebastian or Camera Obscura and paved the way for the next albumes "Antisocialites" and "Blue Rev" that earned them a Grammy nomination.
