Rocktrospectiva: The Sole Album By Scandal Feauring Patty Smyth "Warrior" Turns 40

Released on 21 August 1984, "Warrior" was the debut and sole studio album by Scandal at the time featuring their lead singer Patty Smyth, the album the No. 17 on the U.S. Billboard 200 thanks in part cause the strength of the lead single "The Warrior". The album spawned two other singles "Hands Tied" & "Beat Of Heart".

Unfortunately, it was the only full-length album by the American band Scandal with the beautiful and talented Patty Smyth, the album turned out to be the best bet the band could have had. Just before thi album, the band had just released a self-titled EP from which "Goodbye To You" was released, reaching No. 62 on the Billboard thanks to the high rotation it had on MTV, this minor succesful allowed the arrival of what would become "Warrior" which ended up giving them more dynamism and finally achieving stardom.

The curious thing about is that despite the fact that they gave us their most coherent and memorable album, they did not have a better life after this. Regardless, we can say that the album is an often underrated 80s pop rock gem, and besides the album coinciding with the release of CDs at a time when they were the hottest innovation.

The album is full of great moments, starting with "The Warrior", the band's most famous single, pure and solid good rock, with Smyth's charm and a powerful, dark, mystical and avant-garde sound about a breakup full of drama and disorder, but the album also offered other great tracks, for instance, the remarkable power ballad "Hands Tied" with a simple but charming video where the rhythm perfectly enveloped Smyth's charming and powerful voice, the same with the moving "Less Than Half" and the moving "Beat Of A Heart", which enjoyed some rotation on MTV, plus the rest of the album offers great moments that make the album a joy from beginning to end, helping to leave a mark on the sound of the band.

Shortly after the release of this great album, the band split up and Smyth went in search of a solo career that yielded some dividends, such as the 1992 hit with Don Henley "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough", which saved her from becoming a two-hit wonder thanks to the support she had for "No Mistakes". She has also remained in the limelight thanks to her husband John McEnroe.
