La Recopilación: Loving The Alien (1983-1988)

 

David Bowie vuelve de nuevo al ruedo con otra gran recopilación llamada "Loving The Alien (1983-1988)" que incluuría todos sus discos de ese período remasterizados, una versión remasterizado de "Never Let Me Down" del 2018, dos directos, una selección de remixes claves y Recall 4 que contiene singles y Lados B, y que se vienen a sumar a los lanzados "A New Career In A New Town".

Catalogada por muchos como la peor época de Bowie, pero independientemente de lo que se diga, esa fue mi década, la que me presentó a David Bowie con su "Let's Dance" y que terminó enganchandome a su arte para siempre. Claro obviamente para muchos, Bowie fue los 70's cuando lo mejor de su repertorio y creatividad estaban a mil por hora, pero luego se vino un descalabro a principios de los 80's del cual saldría imbatible con el excelente y comercial "Let's Dance", una nueva caída con "Tonight" y luego entregaría un disco confuso "Never Let Me Down", además de colaboraciones en soundtracks para "Labyrinth", "The Falcon And The Snowman" y "Absolute Beginners", y a pesar de los pesares y que algunos de esos discos no fueran del todo buenos para muchos, venían algunos brillantes singles como "Loving The Alien", "Blue Jean", y "Never Let Me Down", y eso que no incluyen aquí a Tin Machine, proyecto en el que trabajo a finales de los 80's y principios de los 90's y que musicalmente hablando ofrecía mucho. 

Claro que no culpó a los seguidores originales, aquellos que fueron testigo de aquel variopinto Bowie, ya que para ellos, todo lo ochentero raya entre lo comercial y promedio de la década, incluso el propio Tony Visconti, comentaba que Bowie se había vendido para aquel entonces. Pero es como vuelvo a decir, cada quien con su gusto, para mi Bowie en los 80's era de lo mejor en gran parte porque mucho de su material de los 70's era desconocido para mi, era un niño cuando le conocí gracias al éxito masivo que tuvo "Let's Dance" y que por la era del video de la mano de MTV llegó a mi pantalla chica por medio de un programa llamado "Musicales del 13", cada vez que miro ese video, es como viajar en el tiempo 35 años atrás y recordarme de esas tardes soleadas entre julio y agosto de 1983 y rapidamente adoptarlo como uno de mis videos preferidos por la historia que contaba, y a partir de aquí se convertiría en ese viejo compañero de aventuras hasta su momento de partida a principios del 2016.

Quizás los discos de este período no tenían el encanto conceptual de "Honky Dory", "Station to Station" o la famosa trilogía de Berlin, pero para mi "Let's Dance" era pop rock del bueno, en el caso "Tonight" no tuvo la misma repercusión que el otro, pero medio se conocío "Blue Jean" en las estaciones locales, aunque peor fue la cosa con "Never Let Me Down" ya que como les decía, el disco era muy conceptual y hasta la gira ambiciosa "Glass Spider" no podía darse en cualquier lugar, pero ya para aquel entonces y gracias a la televisión por cable, uno podía estar más al día y abierto a mejores y más propuestas que lo que traían los programas locales, y si recuerdo algunos temas de ese complicado disco que me gustaron mucho, incluso hasta la fecha cargo en mi Ipod "Loving The Alien" y "Never Let Me Down", y por curioso que fuera y a pesar que en Guatemala para variar solo lo comercial llegá, Bowie estuvo omnipresente durante todos esos años, que en anuncios para la Pepsi y que aparecían en la televisión local, que en películas de las cuales, únicamente "Labyrinth" vino a Guatemala, que trasnochando viendo MTV un jueves tarde por la noche, en fin, a pesar de los pesares se mantuvo. Y es por eso que me encanta su período ochentero, por el simple hecho que estaba viendo el evento en directo, el lanzamiento del disco, los singles de moda, sus actuaciones, sus entrevistas y muchas cosas más. 

Quizás por todo esto que siento una fuerte atracción por poseer este Box Set, porque apela a mi niñez y mi entrada a la adolescencia, me recuerda el otrora MTV que pasaba video e importaba, los Friday Night Videos, Musicales del 13, encontrando en los anaqueles de Discos y Cosas y cuando comenzaba el Duende una vieja copia originales en CD de "Let's Dance" o "Never Let Me Down" y que por aquel entonces aún no podía darme el gusto de adquirir, y probablemente muchos contemporaneos sientan lo misma alegría por querer tener esta fabulosa recopilación que a continuación vamos a desmenuzar:

La nueva recopilación "Loving The Aline" viene en dos presentaciones: un paquete de 15LP de vinilo grueso y un box set de 11CD, que trae remasterizaciones de "Let's Dance" (1983), "Tonight" (1984), y "Never Let Me Down" (1987), la versión en vinilo de "Never Let Me Down" trae la version original en CD por primera vez, y que trae la versión retrabajada de "Time Will Crawl", en aquella época aparecieron en escena Reeves Gabriels y David Torn en las guitarras, Sterling Campbell en la batería y Tim Lefebvre en el bajo, y que participan en la nueva producción, así como cameos de Laurie Anderson y una nueva versión del tema "Zeroes", mientras que "Loving The Alien" contiene tambiéun una nueva versión y producción que aparecera en el disco versión 2018 de Never Let me Down en dos LP's del vinilos y estará en un CD en la versión de 11CD.

También viene un directo del "Serious Moonlight Tour" de 1983, grabado en Vancouver aquel año, y que fue mezclado por Bob Clearmountarin pero que el disco nunca vio la luz, también un video del concierto que venía en VHS, Laserdisc, y luego DVD, y el trabajo de portada viene a cargo del fotográfo Denis O'Regan quien lanzó el libro Ricochet. Una toma del concierto del gira "Glass Spider" en Montreal en 1987, que incluye también "Loving The Alien", que tampoco fue lanzada antes ni en vinilo por lo que es otra novedad para la colección. Los 80's fue la era del remix, y esto hace que vengan una serie de remixes que muchos no han escuchado antes, y por esa razón Parlopone ha decidido lanzar los remixes un total de doce que cubren la mayoría de los singles, incluyendo la versión larga de "Shake It", que fue un B-side inédito de China Girl, estos remixes viene en un disco llamado "Dance" un nombre que fue tomado de un album remix de Bowie que casi es lanzado a finales de 1985, otra variantes incluyen un Underground Dub Mix y Girls Japanese Versión, así como ilustraciones de "Day-In Day-Ou", y "Time Will Crawl", con curiosas versiones 12" de "Groucho" y "Dance Crew" y una curiosa versión dub/acapella de "Never Let Me Down"

Finalmente se viene el Re:Call 4, que es una compilación de rarezas, en la versión vinilo abarca tres discos y en la de CD son dos, y se enfoque en material original de las versiones 45 de la época, alguo B-Sides como "Julie" y "Girls", canciones de soundtracks (Labyrinth, Absolute Beginners", When The Wind Blows", y las ediciones originales de los track en vinilo de "Never Let Me Down".

Sin duda se trata de una gran recopilación que contiene mucho material exclusivo que en las entregas previas, en la versión para vinilo son 2LP del Serious Moonlight y 3LP para el Glass Spider que traen material exclusivo, y para el box set CD son cuatro discos los que traen contenido único, además de un libreto de 128 pagínas para el CD box set, y 84 para el vinilo set, con tomas rareza y nunca antes publicadas por los fotográfos detrás, como Denis O'Regan, Greg Gorman, herb Ritts y otros con muchas notas de prensa, notas técnicas y palabras de los productores e ingenieros Nile Rodgers, Hugh Padgham, Mario McNulty y Justin Shirley-Smith, estas entregas saldrán a la venta el próximo 12 de Octubre del 2018.
